Granulite : Properties, Compositions, Uses » Geology Science

Granulites are a type of high-grade metamorphic rock that forms under conditions of high temperature and pressure. They are characterized by the presence of granular minerals, which means that the mineral grains are roughly equidimensional and roughly the same size. The most common minerals found in granulites include feldspar, pyroxene, amphibole, and garnet.

Source of Mesozoic intermediate-felsic igneous rocks in …

Four intermediate to felsic igneous rocks from the Zhangjiakou region, along the northern margin of the North China craton, have magmatic zircon U-Pb ages from 122 to 144 Ma. Two of these samples have inherited zircon U-Pb ages of ~ 2.5 Ga, similar to the zircon ages of rocks from the surrounding granulite terrain. Zircons from two intermediate composition granulite xenoliths …

Granulites & Granulites 2024

The excursions will allow participants to observe in the field iconic sections of granulite to migmatite terranes and to discuss topics such as lower crustal structure and composition, mantle metasomatism, granulite-granite …

Origin of felsic granulite microstructure by heterogeneous

Origin of felsic granulite microstructure by heterogeneous decomposition of alkali feldspar and extreme weakening of orogenic lower crust during the Variscan orogeny. J. FRANĚK, ... It shows that the precursor of the Variscan felsic granulites was a high-pressure alkali feldspar-rich coarse-grained layered orthogneiss. Its S1 subhorizontal ...

Felsic granulite with layers of eclogite facies rocks in the …

High pressure granulite and granulite gneiss from the Rychleby Mountains in the East Sudetes form an approximately 7 km long and 0.8 km wide body, which is enclosed by amphibolite facies orthogneiss with a steep foliation.Well preserved felsic granulite is located in the central part of the body, where several small bodies of mafic granulite are also present.

High-pressure/ultrahigh-temperature mafic and felsic …

The felsic granulite records the peak metamorphic stage (M2) defined by the matrix minerals and the garnet mantle, and the retrograde stage defined by the symplectite and the garnet rim (M3). P-T estimations using pseudosection techniques and two-feldspar thermometry yield ∼8–9.8 kbar/710–828 °C for the prograde stage M1, ∼14.5–15 ...

Ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism revealed by felsic granulite

The Himalayan-Tibetan orogen experienced extensive thermal disturbance during the Indian-Asian collision, yet evidence for ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism (UHTM, >900 °C) remains scant. We report a UHTM event in the Lhasa Block, identified from felsic granulite xenoliths in Sangsang near the Tangra Yum Co Rift (TYR) of southern Tibet.

MENZERITE- (Y), A NEW SPECIES, { (Y,REE) (Ca,Fe

Menzerite-(Y), a new mineral species, forms reddish brown cores, n = 1.844 (20), up to 70 μm across, rimmed successively by euhedral almandine containing up to 2.7 wt% Y 2 O 3 and by K-feldspar in a felsic granulite on Bonnet Island in the interior Parry Sound domain, Grenville Orogenic Province, Canada. It is named after Georg Menzer (1897–1989), the …

Granulite (felsic)

Granulite: Granulite is a high-grade metamorphic rock in which Fe-Mg-silicates are dominantly hydroxyl-free; the presence of feldspar and the absence of primary muscovite are critical, …

Deformation-induced, retrograde transformation of kyanite …

The felsic granulite at the Plešovice quarry has been retrogressed at temperatures of 490–590 °C assuming pressures of 300–500 MPa, and subsequently mylonitized in the ductile shear zone at temperatures of 390–440 °C assuming a pressure of 250 MPa. However, deformation inside the ductile shear zone promoted transformation of kyanite to ...
